Adobe LeanPrint: an easy way to print economically and greener

Why is LeanPrint worth writing about?
It’s rare that we get truly excited about new technology, especially software that relates to printing and copying.  New programs come and go with dizzying speed; all offering productivity savings.  Now here comes Adobe which, after languishing for a short time, has developed a new product that makes perfect sense.

Adobe LeanPrint empowers users to significantly control their print output by saving toner and paper.  The software installs on user’s workstations.  When they go to print, the user gets a choice as to what level of savings they wish and the software then previews the document for them also showing the approximate toner, paper and cost saving before printing.  By turning employees into partners, Adobe is tapping into the smartest and most effective way to control print costs.

What’s behind LeanPrint
The software uses innovative methods to intuitively reformat the layout of documents, removing unnecessary white space and using less toner while making the document easily readable.  For example, when printing a web page, LeanPrint will remove advertisements, side menus, and then it will allow you to select only the section of content you wish to print.  Need to print an Excel worksheet?  No need to preview, format and adjust column widths or margins.  LeanPrint will do all of that for you and make it easily readable with one click so you save all that time and will print one page instead of six.

The IT side of LeanPrint
Adobe LeanPrint features advanced reporting for both users and IT managers allowing them to view the individual and enterprise usage and savings.  Easy-to-read graphs helps users visualize and understand trends in their personal use.  IT managers will get dashboard reports offering a comprehensive look at the enterprise and allowing them to drill down for information about groups and users.

What can be saved?
The average cost per year per employee for printing is above $800 with toner and paper accounting for about $300 of that cost.   LeanPrint can offer between 30% to 80% reduction or $90 to $120 saving per employee per year for typical users.
